Pharmacological Action Of Lactulose Solution

Lactifructose in the colon is converted into low molecular weight organic acids by the digestive tract flora, resulting in a decrease in the intestinal pH and, by retaining water, an increase in fecal volume. The above functions stimulate the colon peristalsis, keep the stool unobtrusional, relieve constipation, and restore the physiological rhythm of the colon.

During hepatic encephalopathy (PSE), hepatic coma and prophase of coma, the above functions promote the growth of acidophilic bacteria (such as lactobacillus) in the intestinal tract, inhibit the protein decomposition of bacteria, and make ammonia into ionic state. By reducing the contact pH value, osmotic effect can be exerted and ammonia metabolism of bacteria can be improved, thus catharsis can be exerted.
