GILENYA is indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), to include clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease, in patients 10 years of age and older. Developed by Novartis, it was approved in the United States in September 2010 for multiple sclerosis (MS); in March 2011, it was approved in the European Union; in September 2011, it was approved in Japan. Fingolimod hydrochloride is a new immunosuppressant and the first oral drug for the treatment of MS. Belonging to the sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator, it can promote the retention of lymphocytes in lymph nodes and achieve the effect of inhibiting autoimmune reactions.
