Dalfampridine is used to help improve walking in patients with multiple sclerosis. This medicine is a potassium channel blocker. The only symptomatic treatment approved for walking difficulties in MS patients. In January 2010, it was approved by the FDA to improve the walking ability of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). It can be used alone or in combination with existing multiple sclerosis treatment drugs, including immunomodulators. Clinical studies have demonstrated that treatment with Ampyra improves walking speed in patients with multiple sclerosis, and it is effective in all 4 major MS subtypes.
