Nelarabine was developed by GlaxoSmithKline. It was first approved by the FDA for marketing in the United States on October 28, 2005, and then approved by the EMA for marketing in Europe on August 22, 2007. On October 19, 2007, it was approved by PMDA to be listed in Japan.
Nelarabine is an analogue of T lymphocyte selection nucleoside, which is a 6-methoxy derivative of ara-G, an analogue of water-soluble deoxyguanosine. Nucleoside analogues have been shown to be effective as cytotoxic agents in the treatment of hematological malignancies. It is used for T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia or lymphoma that is ineffective or relapsed after at least 2 chemotherapy regimens. Drugs listed in EU, US, and Japan.
