This product is used in combination with diet and exercise therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes who have poor blood glucose control after metformin monotherapy or are undergoing combined treatment of the two. Note that it cannot be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. In post-marketing experience, acute pancreatitis has been reported in patients treated with sitagliptin and metformin, including fatal and non-fatal hemorrhagic or necrotizing pancreatitis.
