Azithromycin is a macrolide antibacterial drug, suitable for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by sensitive strains of designated microorganisms in the following specific diseases. -Acute onset of bacterial infection of chronic bronchitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis or Streptococcus pneumoniae. -Community-acquired pneumonia caused by Chlamydia pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Streptococcus pneumoniae. -Acute otitis media caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis or Streptococcus pneumoniae. -Acute bacterial sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis or Streptococcus pneumoniae. -Pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. -Simple skin and skin structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes or Streptococcus agalactiae. -Urethritis and cervicitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrhoeae. -Male genital ulcers (chancres) caused by Haemophilus ducrei. Because the number of women recruited in clinical trials is too small, the efficacy of azithromycin in the treatment of chancre in women has not been determined. Use restrictions Azithromycin should not be used in patients with pneumonia who are not considered suitable for oral treatment due to moderate to severe diseases or risk factors, such as: -Patients with cystic fibrosis, -Hospital-acquired infection patients, -Patients with confirmed or suspected bacteremia, -Patients who need to be hospitalized, -Elderly or frail patients, or -Patients suffering from major underlying diseases that have impaired the body's ability to respond to the disease (including immunodeficiency or functional asplenia).
