There are more than 8,700 pharmaceutical enterprises in China, more than 6,000 GMP manufacturers, and more than 3,000 API manufacturers registered with the State Food and Drug Administration. Pharmaceutical intermediates also account for a large proportion.

In 2008, China's total import and export volume of API reached us $23.894 billion, up 22.19% year-on-year, accounting for 49.07% of China's total import and export volume of pharmaceutical products.

Since 2008, the compound annual growth rate of China's API exports has exceeded 20% on average. In 2009, the export volume reached 17.58 billion US dollars, with a year-on-year growth of 29.59%. Export plays a more and more important role in driving the API industry, directly promoting the improvement of the profit level of the industry. From January to November 2012, the PROFIT of API reached 15.59 billion yuan, with a growth rate of up to 49.5%.
