This product is suitable for the treatment of frequent urination, urgency or urge incontinence symptoms caused by overactive bladder. Tolterodine is a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist. Both bladder contraction and saliva secretion are mediated by cholinergic muscarinic receptors. After oral administration, tolterodine is metabolized in the liver to form 5-hydroxymethyl derivatives. The derivative is the main metabolite with pharmacological activity. The 5-hydroxymethyl metabolite exhibits antimuscarinic activity similar to tolterodine, and plays a great role in the therapeutic effect of the drug. Tolterodine and its 5-hydroxymethyl metabolites both show high specificity for muscarinic receptors because of their activity on other neurotransmitter receptors and other potential cellular targets such as calcium channels Or the affinity can be ignored. Tolterodine has a prominent effect on bladder function. The effects of tolterodine immediate release tablets (Immediate Release, IR) on urodynamic parameters in healthy volunteers were determined before a single dose of 6.4 mg before and 1 hour and 5 hours after administration. The main effect of tolterodine 1 hour and 5 hours after administration is to increase the residual urine volume, reflecting the incomplete emptying of the bladder and the decrease of detrusor pressure. These findings are consistent with its antimuscarinic effect on the lower urinary tract.
