This product is suitable for postmenopausal women with estrogen receptor positive or unknown metastatic breast cancer. This product is a derivative of tamoxifen. It can be combined with estrogen receptor to produce estrogen-like effect, anti-estrogen effect or both at the same time. This mainly depends on the length of treatment, animal species, gender, and target organs. Generally speaking, non-steroidal tristyrene derivatives mainly exhibit anti-estrogenic effects in humans and rats, and estrogen-like effects in mice. The application of toremifene citrate in postmenopausal breast cancer patients caused a moderate decrease in serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Toremifene citrate competes with estrogen to bind to the estrogen receptor in the cytoplasm of breast cancer to prevent estrogen-induced DNA synthesis and proliferation of cancer cells. Some experimental tumors use high-dose toremifene citrate, showing that toremifene citrate has non-estrogen-dependent anti-tumor effects. The anti-breast cancer effect of toremifene citrate is mainly anti-estrogen, and it may also have other anti-cancer mechanisms (change tumor gene expression, secrete growth factors, induce apoptosis and affect cell dynamics cycle).
