This product is a psychiatric drug used to treat schizophrenia. Ziprasidone is an atypical antipsychotic, and its structure is different from phenothiazine or butyrylbenzene antipsychotics. In vitro studies have shown that ziprasidone has a high affinity for dopamine D2, D3, serotonin 5HT23, 5HT20, 5HTiA, 5HTiD, and α1-adrenergic receptors, and has a moderate affinity for histamine H1 receptors, including No affinity was seen for other tested receptors/binding sites including M cholinergic receptors. Ziprasidone has an antagonistic effect on D2, 5HT23, and 5HTiD receptors, and an agonistic effect on 5HTiA receptors. Ziprasidone can inhibit synaptic reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. Consistent with other anti-schizophrenia drugs, the mechanism of action of ziprasidone is unclear. Studies suggest that its anti-schizophrenia effect may be exerted by its antagonism to D2 and 5HT2 receptors, and its antagonism to other similar affinity receptors may be the cause of other therapeutic effects and side effects. The antagonism of the H1 receptor may be the cause of ziprasidone's drowsiness, and the antagonism of the α1-adrenergic receptor may be the cause of orthostatic hypotension.
