Drotaverine hydrochloride is a new type of antispasmodic drug developed by Sanofi's joint venture Chinoin Pharmaceutical Factory. Drotaverine hydrochloride inhibits phosphodiesterase, increases the level of cyclic adenosine monophosphate in cells, inhibits myosin light chain muscle enzymes, relaxes smooth muscles, and relieves spasm. Its effect does not affect the autonomic nervous system. Drotaverine hydrochloride is an isoquinoline derivative. Compared with traditional anticholinergic antispasmodics such as anisodamine and atropine, it is characterized by comprehensive action, long-lasting curative effect, small adverse reactions, and wide adaptability. It has satisfactory curative effect on abdominal pain caused by spasm of gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, urogenital system. The antispasmodic effect of Drotaverine Hydrochloride is 2.5 times stronger than that of papaverine, which also acts on smooth muscle, and the effect lasts longer.
