Famciclovir is a purine nucleoside analogue, an oral prodrug of penciclovir, used for the treatment of herpes zoster. Famciclovir is rapidly deacetylated and oxidized to produce penciclovir after being absorbed. Penciclovir enters the virus-infected bacteria in the human body and is converted into penciclovir triphosphate. The latter exerts an antiviral effect by inhibiting the replication of viral DNA. Famciclovir has anti-type I, type II herpes simplex virus (HSV-I, HSV-II) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV) activity. Famciclovir can be used for the treatment of herpes zoster, herpes simplex and genital herpes. It has the characteristics of alleviating and reducing postherpetic nerve pain symptoms, relieving gastrointestinal complications of skin herpes, and shortening the course of the disease. Recent studies have confirmed that the drug can also be used for the treatment of hepatitis B. .
