Levocarbostine hydrochloride is a cyclohexidine derivative antihistamine drug developed by Janssen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Belgium. It was first marketed in Denmark in 1991 and is currently on the market in many countries around the world. Levocarbastine hydrochloride is highly specific to H1 receptors, and when it competes with histamine for H1 receptors, it shows very strong H1 receptor affinity, thereby eliminating allergic symptoms caused by histamine binding to the receptor. As an antihistamine for nasal use, levocabastine hydrochloride is superior to the second-generation oral antihistamine in alleviating nasal congestion symptoms. Studies have shown that for patients whose second-generation oral antihistamines cannot be effectively controlled, nasal antihistamines such as levocabastine hydrochloride are effective. Levocarbastine hydrochloride nasal spray takes effect 15-30 minutes after administration, which is faster than oral antihistamines. In the first three quarters of 2018, the sales of levocabastine hydrochloride nasal spray in public hospitals in key cities were 4.2 million yuan.
