Brexpiprazole is a kind of atypical antipsychotic. It is a dopamine D2 receptor partial agonist. As a novel serotonin-dopamine activity modulator, it can be used for the treatment of schizophrenia, and for the adjunctive treatment for depression. It can also provide efficacy and tolerability over established adjunctive treatments for major depressive disorder(MDD). Brexpiprazole is the first dopamine D2, 5-HT1A receptor agonist, and 5-HT2A receptor antagonist compound jointly developed by Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals of Denmark and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. of Japan. It was approved for marketing by the US FDA in August 2015. Brexpiprazole is a clinically significant multi-target antipsychotic drug with good prospects for development. In 2019, the sales of Brexpiprazole were US$1.43 billion.
