Roxadustat is jointly developed by Fabrigen China and AstraZeneca China. It is an orally potent and reversible hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI), which can Transiently stabilize and activates the HIF transcription factor to initiate an adaptive transcriptional response that, under normoxia, mimics the erythropoietic response that occurs in humans in hypoxic environments, including the production of endogenous erythropoietin As well as iron mobilization by reducing hepcidin, ultimately inducing erythropoiesis and improving anemia. Before Roxadustat was approved, the treatment methods for renal anemia mainly included: iron supplementation, erythrocyte production stimulating agent (ESAs) treatment (ie injection of erythropoietin EPO), and blood transfusion treatment. There are limitations in terms of safety and convenience. In December 2018, Roxadustat was the first in the world to be approved and launched in China for the treatment of anemia in dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease. In August 2019, the indication for the treatment of anemia in patients with non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease was approved by NMPA. Roxadustat is a beneficial supplement and improvement of the current treatment plan for renal anemia and has a good clinical prospect.
