Compared with cholestyramine and colestipol, colesevelam has a stronger affinity for bile acids, so it is more effective in reducing cholesterol and increasing bile acid excretion. It can be used at lower doses to reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions , The interaction potential with other drugs is also lower. At present, only cholestyramine is listed in China. According to PDB data, the domestic sales of cholestyramine in 2018 was about 60 million, an increase of 350% year-on-year; the patent of cholestyramine expired in 2014, and there is no domestic market in China. The manufacturer's imitation has been selected as one of the first national catalogs of encouraged generic drugs in China.
