Avatropol maleate tablets are the second-generation, once-daily oral first thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist. It was developed by AkaRx and was approved by the FDA on May 21, 2018 for marketing. Treatment of low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia CIT) in adult patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) who are scheduled to undergo medical or dental surgery is the first medicine to treat this purpose. Global sales in 2018 were approximately USD 1.27 million. Recently, as China's first CLDT-related thrombocytopenia drug, it was approved for marketing in China, and it was the first small molecule innovative drug introduced by Fosun Pharma. An oral bioavailable small molecule TPO receptor agonist that can stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes in bone marrow progenitor cells, thereby increasing the production of platelets. Avatripopap maleate does not compete with TPO to bind to the TPO receptor, and has an additive effect on platelet production with TPO, which can safely increase the patient’s platelet count level, thereby reducing or even completely avoiding additional platelet transfusion and related Rescue, reduce infection and other risks caused by platelet transfusion, with good tolerance and safety.
