Fenoterol is a selective β2 type receptor agonist and is a derivative of metaproterenol. Fenoterolide can inhibit the chemokine RANTES released by airway smooth muscle cells induced by the pro-inflammatory substances IL-1 and TNF-α, thereby reducing inflammation and promoting the relief of clinical symptoms in asthma patients. Fenoterol has approximately 15 times the effect of isoproterenol on bronchiectasis, while its effect on the heart is only 1/20. Studies at home and abroad have shown that aerosol inhalation of fenoterol and ipratropium bromide can significantly improve lung ventilation, relieve shortness of breath, and improve quality of life for most patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in stable stage. The efficacy of the combination group was significantly better than that of ipratropium bromide alone. Another study found that the combined solution of fenoterol and ipratropium bromide inhalation in the treatment of acute asthma attacks in children has the characteristics of stable performance, easy to carry, economical and practical, and it is worthy of clinical application.
