Capsaicin, also known as capsaicin, is an extremely spicy vanillamide alkaloid. Capsaicin mainly acts on substance P on C-type sensory neurons, and some unmyelinated slow-conducting fibers in C-type nerve fibers can transmit skin pain and pathological itching. In response to harmful stimuli, C-type nerve fibers release substance P to cause hyperesthesia. When drugs are applied to reduce local substance P, it can prevent the transmission of certain types of pain and itching.
