Applications

Progesterone is a natural progesterone secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary during the luteal phase. It can also be produced through the placenta and adrenal glands. It was first synthesized and sold in 1934. It is one of the most commonly used clinical drugs in obstetrics and gynecology. In June 2020, the US FDA granted progesterone the orphan drug designation for "eye graft versus host disease". The pharmacological effects of progesterone are mainly: 1) participate in the hormonal regulation of the human hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis together with other estrogens, finely intervene in the ovulatory menstrual cycle, 2) promote the proliferation and secretion of the uterine mucosa, and complete the preparation for pregnancy. 3) Has a fetal protection effect. Some studies have found that progesterone treatment has potential benefits for endometrial hyperplasia (precancerous lesions) and early endometrial cancer. Progesterone is not only an important steroid hormone drug, but also a pharmaceutical intermediate, and the market demand is very strong. In 2018, the sales of terminal progesterone injections in public medical institutions in China were 192 million yuan, with a growth rate of 87.91%. The market space and growth potential are great.
