This product is a direct inhibitor of thrombin. The original research company is Mitsubishi Tanabe, Japan. It was approved for marketing by Japan PMDA on January 23, 1990, and was approved for marketing by the US FDA in June 2000. Clinically, it is mainly used for the improvement of neurological symptoms (motor paralysis) and daily activities (walking, standing, maintaining sitting, eating) of patients with acute ischemic cerebral infarction within 48 hours of onset. Argatroban is a synthetic piperidine carboxylic acid derivative of L-arginine. It is a small molecule substance with high selectivity and can directly inhibit the activity of thrombin reversibly. It can quickly combine with the free thrombin in the blood clot to produce anticoagulant effect. Although the variety is well received by doctors in clinical aspects, it has not grown into a blockbuster drug due to the limitations of indications and usage methods. The global sales peak appeared in 2011, with sales of nearly 240 million U.S. dollars, and sales in the past 7 years were more than 100 million U.S. dollars.
