Sulfamethoxazole, also known as compound neorumin, is a sulfa antibiotic. It can compete with PABA to act on the dihydrofolate synthase in bacteria to prevent the synthesis of bacterial dihydrofolate, thereby inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria. As an antibiotic, its antibacterial effect is universal and strong. It is particularly effective against Staphylococcus and Escherichia coli.
