Cefpodoxime proxetil is an oral broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin. It is a prodrug of cefpodoxime. After entering the body, it is hydrolyzed into cefpodoxime by non-specific esterase and exerts antibacterial effect against Gram-positive and negative bacteria. Both are valid. The mechanism of action of this product is to achieve bactericidal effect by inhibiting the biosynthesis of microbial cell walls. This product is stable to β-lactamase, so many β-lactamase-producing microorganisms resistant to penicillin and cephalosporins are still sensitive to this product. At the same time, the drug resistance rate of cefpodoxime proxetil was significantly lower than that of cefixime. Clinically, it is mainly used for pneumonia, acute bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, gonorrhea urethritis and skin and soft tissue infections caused by sensitive bacteria. In 2017, global sales of cephalosporins were 11.86 billion U.S. dollars. In 2018, it was 12.94 billion U.S. dollars. In 2019, it will reach over 13.5 billion U.S. dollars. At present, cephalosporin products in the antibiotic market in China account for approximately 40%-45% of the market.
