Levalbuterol hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of the L-R-isomer of the β 2 receptor agonist salbutamol. Studies have shown that racemic salbutamol and levalbuterol can reduce the spasm caused by acetylcholine and histamine and other spasmodic agents, while dexalbutamol has no such effect. Therefore, racemic salbutamol dilates the bronchus mainly due to the effect of levalbuterol. This product is currently the first chiral drug in the market for the treatment of bronchial asthma. It has a faster action than salbutamol sulfate, higher curative effect, and less side effects. Therefore, the application of single enantiomer levosalbutamol drug has become an inevitable trend. The administration of a single enantiomer has attracted widespread clinical attention. As a new drug for the treatment of respiratory diseases, levalbuterol is expected to gradually replace salbutamol in clinical practice.
