Sevelamer carbonate is a brand-new non-calcium non-metallic phosphorus binder. Its main component is polyacrylamide carbonate, which is not absorbed into the blood and does not accumulate while binding phosphate. Clinical trials have confirmed that the phosphorus-lowering effect of sevelamer carbonate is similar to that of calcium-containing phosphorus binders. Sevelamer carbonate can also improve dyslipidemia and arterial stiffness, and reduce cardiovascular mortality. The current status of blood phosphorus control in dialysis patients in China is very unsatisfactory. Among the currently used phosphorus binders, the combination of calcium and phosphorus will accelerate the progression of complications (such as calcification) in dialysis patients. Related guidelines recommend limiting the use of combination of calcium and phosphorus. While Sevelamer is not absorbed and has no risk of accumulation, it can also produce more prognostic benefits for patients while effectively reducing phosphorus.
