Applications

Enzalutamide, an androgen receptor inhibitor jointly developed by Medivation and Astellas, was approved by the FDA for the treatment of castration-resistant prostate cancer on August 31, 2012. With the clinical benefit of prolonging the survival period of 5 months, the situation is quickly opened, and the clinical use does not need to be combined with glucocorticoid prednisone. In July and November 2018, enzalutamide was approved by the US FDA and EU respectively for the treatment of non-metastatic CRPC adult patients with high metastasis risk. This approval also makes enzalutamide the first oral drug that can be used for both metastatic and non-metastatic castration to resist prostate cancer. The sales of enzalutamide in 2019 were approximately US$4.3 billion, significantly surpassing Johnson & Johnson's Abiraterone, and it is currently a well-deserved super blockbuster in the prostate cancer market. This product is currently one of two targeted drugs for the treatment of prostate cancer. Its market performance abroad has surpassed that of abiraterone, with global sales of nearly US$3 billion. It is predicted that after the patent expires, it will become a popular imitation product.
