Brinzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and is mainly used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Brinzolamide was developed by Alcon Ophthalmology, and was approved by the FDA in April 1998 for its first listing in the United States. Brinzolamide eye drops are currently a good drug for treating ocular hypertension and relieving the elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma. It has been marketed in nearly 30 countries around the world. Alcon Ophthalmology Company approved the import of this product in China in 2002. Brinzolamide eye drops have maintained a rapid growth rate since they went on the market. It is now a Class B drug in China's 2009 "National Essential Medical Insurance Drug List".
