Sugammadex Sodium is indicated for the reversal of neuromuscular blockade induced by rocuronium bromide and vecuronium bromide in adults undergoing surgery. It is developed by Merck and was launched in the EU in September 2008, in the United States in December 2015, and in China in April 2017. Sugammadex sodium is the world's first marketed selective muscle relaxation antagonist for the reversal of neuromuscular blocking agents. Residual neuromuscular blockade refers to the use of muscle relaxants during the operation. After the operation, the neuromuscular function has not returned to the normal level, resulting in the limitation of breathing, vision, swallowing, and other functions, which can cause severe postoperative respiratory distress. Dysfunction directly threatens the life safety of patients. In clinical surgical anesthesia, this product can help patients under general anesthesia to accurately and quickly reverse the state of deep and moderate muscle relaxation, promote the recovery of patients' ability to breathe spontaneously and limbs, and help improve the postoperative outcome of patients. In 2018, global sales amounted to US$917 million and the market is still on the rise.
