Rifabutin is a semi-synthetic rifamycin drug with good fat solubility and can be widely distributed in tissues and cells, effectively inhibiting bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby inhibiting and killing bacteria. At present, the product has been patented in more than 20 countries, sold in Europe, the United States and other regions and countries, and has been included in the pharmacopoeias of the United States and Germany. Rifabutin is a spiral piperidine derivative of rifamycin, and its inhibitory effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis is about four times stronger than that of rifampin. In clinical trials for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, compared with levofloxacin alone, levofloxacin combined with rifabutin has a significant effect on the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, which is conducive to clearing mycobacterium tuberculosis and improving the immune function of patients without causing liver damage and high safety. Talicia (omeprazole magnesium/amoxicillin/rifabutin) was approved by the US FDA in early November 2019 for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection in adults.
