Bupropion is a safe and effective antidepressant widely used clinically. Recent studies have found that it has a very good smoking cessation effect. Therefore, it was approved by the US FDA as the only prescription smoking cessation drug. As a blocker of nerve uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, bupropion can inhibit nerve reuptake of dopamine to a certain extent. Since its launch in the United States in 1996, the sales of bupropion hydrochloride have continued to increase, ranking it among the top 50 best-selling prescription drugs in the world. In 2018, the global antidepressant market sales were 7.755 billion, and the Chinese antidepressant market sales increased from 4.1 billion to 8.7 billion from 2013 to 2018.
