Piroxicam is a benzothiazine non-steroidal long-acting anti-inflammatory drug. It has a strong inhibitory effect on PG synthase in the body and inhibits the movement of white blood cells to the inflammation area and the outward release of lysosomal enzymes. Piroxicam exerts pharmacological effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase to reduce the synthesis of local prostaglandins, inhibiting the chemotaxis of leukocytes and the release of lysosomal enzymes. In clinical trials for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, whether it is diclofenac sodium or Voltaren latex, the total effective rate is significantly lower than that of piroxicam patch therapy. In addition, the anti-inflammatory activity of piroxicam is greater than indomethacin, phenylbutazone, ibuprofen and aspirin, and its anti-inflammatory effect is about 5 times that of indomethacin and 2.5 times that of diclofenac sodium. Piroxicam has good curative effects in improving the symptoms and signs of patients, improving the quality of life and reducing disease activity, and has few side effects and adverse reactions.
